Because of its well-watered rainforests and nice volcanic heart, Costa Rica is awash in thermal rivers. Several hot springs which pass through this

particular lush, tropical surroundings happen to be left entirely wild, protected by the nation’s well known national park system. Some others happen to be superbly designed, and serve every implausible wish.

The most popular springs cascade down Arenal Volcano, a majestic lava-streaked cone this is certainly synonymous with Costa Rica. The most luxurious is popular Tabacon Grand Spa Thermal Resort, sculpted through several mineral-rich thermal waterways straight into Central America’s most famed spa, one of the region’s true miracles. The modern and already famous-it had been included on NBC’s The Bachelor-The Springs Resort and Spa, nearby, also gets raves from discriminating vacationers because of its perfectly landscaped pools and distinctively decorated rooms.

Some other fine locations to soak your cares away include festive Baldi Hot Springs Resort Hotel & Spa, delivering great accommodations, an enjoyable atmosphere, and a serious waterslide. Budget travelers head to reasonably priced, family-owned Eco Termales, featuring five fine pools and traditional Costa Rican dinning.

Look beyond Arenal, however, for therapeutic hot springs much less traveled, bubbling up through Costa Rica’s rich volcanic earth. Just an hour north of the San José, for instance, you’ll discover a local favorite, delightful Termales del Bosque, with wild pools ensconced in butterfly-strewn forests, boasting family-friendly lodgings and activities onsite. Neighboring Occidental El Tucano accommodates extravagance lovers, featuring its elegant Mediterranean-style pools and features. Or perhaps, just a couple moments south of the capital, will be the misty coffee-growing town of Orosí with two inexpensive hot springs you could check out on an convenient daytime getaway.

Guanacaste, best known for its epic Pacific shoreline, is home to scores more springs. Within an hour of the Liberia International Airport, you’ll discover a number of wild aguas termales (thermal waters) at Rincón de la Vieja National Park. Or maybe head along the slopes of the enormous volcano to find developed springs, for example stylish Borinquen Mountain Resort and Spa, having natural steam rooms, and the newer Blue River Resort Hotel.

Miravalles Volcano, soaring to twin peaks just to the south of Liberia, offers Costa Rica’s biggest collection of hot springs within Costa Rica, most of them uncomplicated, inexpensive-to-visit concrete pools which appeal to local families, advertised with only hand-lettered signs. However consider three outstanding developed possibilities: Yökö Termales, with awe-inspiring sights and maybe the hottest soaking pool in Costa Rica; wild and wonderful Termomanía, with many pools and very affordable lodging, great for families on a tight budget; and Las Hornillas Volcanic Activity Center, well worth visiting for the raised walkway through an active crater.

But these are just a handful of Costa Rica’s most easily accessible springs, there are many, many more. From the deepest known thermal pool in Central America, a simple ojo caliente (hot eye) of dark water stretching some two kilometers beneath Cahuita National Park, on the Caribbean Coast; to the delightful springs perfect for an after-yoga soak at San Gerardo de Dota’s Río Chirripo Retreat, the possibilities are almost endless.

Costa Rica has long been known as a healing vacation spot, its natural bounty providing much to sooth both the body and soul. The thermal springs welling up from these living mountains and luxuriant jungles are perhaps its most profound gift to visitors here to relax and rejuvenate in paradise.
