Many of us have been conditioned to think that comfort foods are terrible and are to be avoided. Sometimes, if the comfort food is candy or some

other junk food, this holds true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be extremely healthy and good for you. There are a number of foods that basically can raise your moods when you consume them. If you feel a little bit down and need a happiness pick me up, try a couple of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are wonderful for helping you combat depression. You should see to it, though, that what you make includes the yolk. When you wish to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, specifically the yolks, are loaded with B vitamins. These B vitamins are wonderful for helping to elevate your mood. This is because they improve the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Try consuming some eggs to jolly up!

Put together some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, etc are all good for raising your mood. This is possible since these foods have a bunch of magnesium which promotes your production of serotonin. Serotonin is known as the “feel good” chemical and it tells your brain how you should be feeling all the time. The more you have of it, the happier you will feel. Nuts, on top of raising your mood, can be a great source of protein.

Cold water fish are wonderful for eating if you wish to beat back depression. Cold water fish like tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fats. DHA and omega-3s are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can seriously elevate your mood.

Grains can be wonderful for fighting a bad mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are terrific at helping you feel happier. They help you feel full too which can truly help to better your mood. It’s easy to feel low when you feel famished! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are easy for your body to digest and process. You digest these foods quicker than other things which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel more pleasant, mood wise.

Your mood could really be helped by green tea. You were sure it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea has a lot of an amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Studies have shown that this amino acid basically induces brain waves. This helps raise your mental acuity while having a relaxing effect on the rest of your body. You probably already knew how easy it is to be healthy when you drink green tea. Now you know that applies to your mood too!

You can see, you don’t have to turn to junk food or foods that are bad for you to feel better! Try some of these suggestions instead.
